On May 23, 2025, the Indonesian Cultural Center (Rumah Budaya Indonesia – RBI), jointly established by Guangxi Normal University (GXNU) and Universitas Brawijaya (UB), was officially inaugurated at the Yucai Campus of GXNU. Supported by the Indonesian Ministry of Culture, the center aims to serve as a key platform for promoting Indonesian culture in southern China and further strengthening cultural and educational exchanges between China and Indonesia.
A New Chapter in Strategic Cooperation
During the inauguration ceremony, the Director of the International Cooperation and Exchange Office of GXNU and representatives from the Faculty of Cultural Studies at Universitas Brawijaya jointly cut the ribbon, marking the official opening of the center. Both parties expressed their commitment to working together to develop the center into an important showcase for the Indonesian language, culture, and arts.
Indonesian Cultural Festival Showcases Diversity
On May 24, GXNU hosted its 13th International Culture Day, which also served as a celebration of the 75th anniversary of China–Indonesia diplomatic relations and as a cultural tribute to the newly launched Indonesian Cultural Center. The event featured a cultural bazaar, batik workshops, an ASEAN food fair, and traditional art performances, attracting enthusiastic participation from students of various nationalities. Students and faculty from Indonesia, Thailand, and Vietnam, as well as local universities in Guilin such as Guilin Tourism University and Guilin University of Electronic Technology, came together to create an engaging cross-cultural experience.
Participants proudly displayed their batik creations, showcasing their creativity and craftsmanship.
The evening concluded with a closing performance themed “The Enchanted Land,” vividly presenting the traditional culture of Bali, Indonesia. The show included traditional dances such as the Kecak Dance and Janger Dance, an angklung ensemble performance, and a dramatic retelling of the classic love story of Jayaprana and Layonsari—offering the audience a fully immersive experience of Indonesian cultural richness.
Promoting Internationalization and Cultural Exchange
GXNU stated that the establishment of the Indonesian Cultural Center is a significant step in advancing the university’s internationalization strategy. The university will continue to support the promotion of Indonesian culture and deepen educational cooperation with ASEAN countries. Universitas Brawijaya hopes to enhance academic collaboration through the center and further expand the influence of Indonesian culture in China.
This collaboration not only strengthens bilateral ties between China and Indonesia but also builds a cultural bridge for the youth of both nations, contributing to deeper people-to-people connectivity under the “Belt and Road” initiative.
